February 2014

Wine and Words Minutes from February 25, 2014

The meeting was held at Cindy’s. We discussed the book The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman.   We enjoyed the book and the characters.  The book is set in Rome and tells a story about the people working at an English language newspaper. Reading the book is like assembling pieces of a puzzle, with each chapter ending with a zinger.

Next meetings:

March 25 at Karen’s house.  Ann will bring dessert.  The book we will be discussing is Truth and Beauty by Ann Patchett.

April 29 at Ann’s house. Karen will bring dessert.  We need to select a book for this month.

Other notes:

Other books we discussed:  The Perfume Collector (by Kathleen Tessaro) , Whiskey Cove (Denise Frisino) and The Orchardist (Amanda Coplin).

The wine we all enjoyed was Picton Bay (sauvignon blanc) from Trader Joe’s.

The recipe for Kay’s delicious berry liqueur

Use a wide mouth quart jar, fill it half way with sugar cubes (be sure to use cubes).  Fill with fresh berries (blackberries and raspberries work well) and mash down.  Fill with vodka, put lid on jar.  Store for 8-12 weeks.  Give the jar a shake about once a week.  Strain through a strainer, then through  cheesecloth lined  funnel.  Pour into a clean bottle and enjoy.
