January 2014

The 1/29/14 meeting of Wine and Words Book Club was held at Jan’s home. Jan served a hearty Chicken Noodle Soup. green salad and delicious home-made rolls Jan, Karen, Ann, Kay, Linda and Sandie were present. Linda served a delectable chocolate cheese cake and shared her funny story about making three attempts to make and buy dessert for the group.

After dinner we discussed the book, Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher: The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward Curtis, by Timothy Egan. Sandie and Ann shared additional books about Edward Curtis, Above the Medicine Line and Portraits from North American Indian Life.

Kay shared The Telling Room: A Tale of Love, Betrayal, Revenge, and the World’s Greatest Piece of Cheese, by Michael Paterniti and we chose this book for June. However, please note from the schedule listed below that we do not have a meeting scheduled for June. Should this book be the May book?>
Karen shared The Orchardist, by Amanda Coplin. Jan plans to read it and let us know what she thinks.

Kay shared The Bookman’s Tale,  by Charlie Lovett and Linda thought it was boring.

We discussed The Snow Child,  which other clubs are reading, but none of the members seemed interested in the fantasy plot-line.

Jan read David and Goliath, by Malcolm Gladwell, but she didn’t recommend it for book club.
