The March meeting of Wine and Words Book Club was held at Ann’s and everyone attended. Anne served potato leek soup and a delicious endivey, beet and goat cheese salad.
We discussed the book for this month, Magpie Murders, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. The book within a book concept was fascinating, but it was a bit confusing to Anne when she got to the end of the first book. There was discussion about the ending and several members wondered if the author had left the reader clues to figure out more of the book, that perhaps the boyfriend had been involved somehow and it was too bad Susan had to leave her life-long profession for a new life in Greece.
Anne and Linda took a felting class and shared their experience.
Linda will be reading Mama’s Last Hug and will let us know if she recommends it.
Jan is reading Educated and Karen had found it very upsetting and shocking.
Karen read A Well-Behaved Woman about the Vanderbilts.
Anne shared a few books recommended by a friend…The Lost Girls of Paris and Travels with Myself and Another.
Cindy read The Big Burn by Timothy Egan and enjoyed it.
Kay is reading Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson, which she finding hilarious.
For summer, our assignment is to each read a book and report in September.
Our next meeting is on April 30, 2019 at Kay’s and the book is Whiskey in a Teacup.
