The October meeting of the Wine and Words Book Club was held at Pats, who served a fennel root and orange salad with a delicious white chili and chicken soup. The white chili recipe is posted on the recipe section. Ann, Karen, Cindy, Linda, Jan, Sandie and Pat were present. We discussed the book Beautiful Ruins, by Jess Walter, and members seemed to enjoy the character development in the story more than the actual story-line. Some thought the plot was convoluted and Linda said it reminded her of a romantic novel. Pat read an excerpt from the book (pages 314-15) that reminded her of Kathy. There was some discussion about the movie, Cleopatra, which was the backdrop for the book.
Book suggestions:
Where did you go Bernadette? – Pat read this and enjoyed it. The character, Bernadette, is an architect who conceptualized the 20-mile house, where everything you need is located within a 20-mile radius of your home.
