Wine and Words Book Club Meeting – November 24, 2020 – Virtual Meeting through Microsoft Teams

The meeting was attended by Sandie, Linda, Karen, Cindy, Ann and Jan (audio only). We met online and talked about how things are going, due to the fact we are all huddled at home because of Covid-19. The book for November was Vanishing Half, by Brit Bennett. Some members have not yet read it, so discussion was limited. A few members are still reading the book for October, by Kamala Harris, Truths We Hold, since she is now the Vice-president elect.

We decided to read the following books in 2021, from our list of recommendations at our September book club meeting:

January – Keeper of Lost Things (Karen)

February – Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, by Kim Michele Richardson.

Books recommended by members:

Karen is reading The Scent Keeper.

Jan read Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell, which the book club read in 2011. Jan said it really gives perspective about things that you never knew about.

Cindy listened to The Luminaries, a good, long mystery, which takes place in Tasmania. It’s a big book so she decided to get the audible and it is a rich tale with a great narrator.

Karen gave Bruce Born to Run, by Bruce Springsteen, for his birthday. He is about halfway through the book and enjoying it.

Sandie recommended the movie,” Emma,” which is free on Amazon Prime. Based on the book by Jane Austin, it is a satire of social class and romantic missteps.

Cindy recommended Dickensian on Amazon Prime. It brings together a composite of all of Dickens’ characters and the premise is, “Who killed Jacob Marley?”

We missed those who couldn’t attend the meeting. Just a reminder for those who want to join the Microsoft Teams meeting on a Mac, that you will need to download the Microsoft Teams App, or Google Chrome for the meeting link to work on your device.

The next meeting of Wine and Words Book Club is scheduled for Dec. 29, 2020 at 4 PM. It will be online and the books to discuss are Doc and Somethings Fishy in Italy.
