April 2015

The April 28 meeting of Wine and Words Book Club was held at Kay’s home, with Jan, Karen, Pat, Sandie, Ann, Linda and Kay present. Kay served a salad made with arugula, goat cheese, grape tomatoes, cucumber and quinoa along with an onion & apple tart, which she and her daughter Keri created.Kay also made mince meat pie for dessert served with ice cream provided by Ann. After dinner Kay served her home-made blackberry liquor and she shared her salt-brined lemons and pears in lemoncello.

During the delicious dinner, the members mentioned several books they were reading…

Light Between the Oceans –

All the Light you Cannot See

Pick a Pickle – 50 Recipes for Pickles, Relishes, and Fermented Snacks

Course Correction – Wild meets The Boys in the Boat, a memoir about the quest for Olympic gold and the triumph of love over fear

Global Forest – Forty ways trees can save us

The book for April was The Island, which members enjoyed reading. As usual, some members have not finished the book, but others encouraged them to do so, saying it was a “good read.” They especially enjoyed the ending..but I wont’t spoil it by detailing it here.

Our next meeting will be at Linda’s on May 26 at 5:30 PM. Kay will provide dessert.
