The January meeting of Wine and Words was held at Jan’s. Linda wasn’t able to attend the meeting, due to a cold. Jan served lemon chicken and a green salad. Kay provided ice cream for dessert.
Ann’s mother passed away recently. We talked about our experiences with loved ones passing away and dealing with grief. Retirement community anyone?
Discussion about The Elegance of the Hedgehog. Only Cindy finished the book. The rest of the members made it part way through, but had difficulty finishing the book.
Discussion about the depressing political climate. Cindy and Sandie told about going to the Women’s March in Seattle. Ann went to the March in Bellingham.

The Power of Now, is a book that changed Jan’s life.
A God in Ruins, by Kate Atkinson is Dee at Fairhaven Book, all-time favorite book – companion book to Life After Life.
Karen suggested reading a classic every year. Cindy is reading Rebecca. Sandie loved War and Peace, which might be a good summer read (1,200+ pages).
Discussion about short story collections. The Moth (enjoyed by Karen’s Bruce). Cindy enjoyed Vampires in the Lemon Grove. Sandie mentioned David Sedaris a well-known American humorist, who has quite a few collections of short stories in book form. She will read a few and report at the next meeting.
Kay is reading The Book of Joy, by the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu .
