The May 27, 2014 meeting of Wine and Words Book Club was held at Kay’s at 5:30 PM. All members except for Ann were present. Kay served asparagus and avocado soup, salad and salmon patties. Cindy provided a lava cake for dessert (see recipe page).
The book for May was The Telling Room , by Michael Paterniti, recommended by Kay. Linda, Kay and Sandie liked the book and enjoyed reading about the old Spanish culture, as compared to the modern American way of life. Everyone agreed the different perspectives from the characters in the book about their versions of the truth was a predominant theme. Pat said the book didn’t hold her interest and Karen was almost finished. We encouraged them to finish reading it, as the rest of the members felt it was a memorable reading experience.
Kay mentioned she attended the performance at the Mount Baker Theater by Bill McKibben, author of Eaarth, Making a Life on a Tough New Planet and Oil and Honey, the Education of an Unlikely Activist.
The Perfume Collector, by Terraro (Karen) is recommended for summer reading and Wild, From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, by Cheryl Strayed, recommended by Sandie, is the book for September. Wild was the Whatcom Reads book for 2014 and you can read about it at http://www.whatcomreads.org/about_wild. The Whatcom Reads book for 2015 is The Boys on the Boat. The next dinner meeting of Wine and Words Book Club will be held on September 30th at 6:30 PM at Sandie’s home. Kay is scheduled to provide dessert.
