Book Club Notes – Sept. 24, 2024
The meeting was held at Kay’s. Everyone attended except Linda and Anne. We sat outside in the back yard under Kay’s new pergola. We talked about native plants, garter snakes and drying fruit.
Our summer reading selection was The Kingdom, The Power & The Glory by Tim Alberta, who also wrote American Carnage. Those who read the book enjoyed it and some are in process.
Kay read Prequel, where “Rachel Maddow traces the fight to preserve American democracy back to World War II, when a handful of committed public servants and brave private citizens thwarted far-right plotters trying to steer our nation toward an alliance with the Nazis.”
A few members recommended the new documentary, From Russia with Lev and the Rachel Maddow podcast, Ultra.
Cindy enjoyed The Premonition by Michael Lewis, recommended by Linda.
Sandie is listening to the 10th anniversary edition of American Gods, (2001) by Neil Gaiman.
The Trouble with Goats & Sheep by Joanna Cannon. Book for November
Karen read Iona Iverson’s Rules for Commuting, by Claire Pooley. Book for October
Jan is reading The Woman. Cindy listened to half of the audio version and didn’t like it.
Kaye is reading Gathering Moss, an earlier book by Robin Wall Kimmerrer, who wrote Braiding Sweetgrass.
Karen read Rock, Paper, Scissors, a thriller by Alice Feeney. Also, French Windows, Antoine Loraine, a light murder.
